My Favourite Wine Bar in Nice

My Favourite Wine Bar in Nice

Established in 1947; Cave de La Tour is a no fuss, down to earth wine bar that caters mainly to locals but warmly welcomes tourists. Lunch is served daily at noon but don’t expect a menu, there is one plat de jour and there is never an empty seat.

The bustling terrace is a hot spot for the 5 à 7 crowd. A glass of white red or rosé, enjoyed on an old wine barrel starts at 3€. Local offerings include glasses and bottles from Bellet, Saint Jeannet and Vence. I love the white côtes-du-rhône.

Get there early – the lively owner climbs on a chair around 8 PM and bangs a gong signally closing time while yelling “on se casse”. Only in France.
